Army infantry and artillery units, battleship gunners, fighter pilots, patrol bomber squadrons, and destroyers/ dropping depth charges combined their efforts with sundry other units in a concerted action against the Japanese in/ the Aleutian Islands./ Picture shows:- U.S. soldiers right in the thick of action on Attu hurling their trench mortar shells over a ridge/ into a Japanese position. Two of them wait tensely for the explosion. A third, with head down, speaks into a/ field telephone, a cigarette dangling from his lips./ Note the trenchful of men behind the mortar.
